Get the Day of the Week from a Date in Microsoft Excel 2007?

How to Get the Day of the Week from a Date?

Column A here has dates as MM/DD/YYYY.

On the top left side of Column A, right click and select “Insert” to add a new column before Column A.

Once added, add a header in A:1 and name it “Date of the Week”.

Then in the cell A:2 type in the following formula:

=CHOOSE(WEEKDAY(B2),"Sun","Mon","Tue","Wed","Thu","Fri","Sat")

Explanation: This formula will use the WEEKDAY() Function to replace any date with a number which will equal your weekday. For example if you simply type in WEEKYDAY(B2), it will output 3. We want to convert 3 into a weekday, and this is why we force that function to replace 3 with Tue.

Press ENTER and you will see Tue in A:2.

If you have multiple dates you would like to convert, simple select the cell on the lower right section and drag down your formula to apply this on all your worksheet in column A.

Done:
