How To Transfer Google Drive Files AND Account Ownership
In this tutorial, you will learn how to transfer ownership of both a Google Drive FILE and Account. This allows you to give FULL access and control to a Google Drive file OR account.
The first thing you want to do after you login to your account is go to the file that you want to transfer ownership of and RIGHT CLICK on it. Then you will see the share option.
You will now see the different SHARING options within Google Drive. Insert/Type the email address of the person to that you want to transfer ownership. (They MUST HAVE a Google Account to do this). Once you have done that, you will see a new drop-down box with the option to make the person an Editor/Viewer ETC. Make sure you have EDITOR selected, and then go ahead and click send.
You should now see an icon next to the file name with a few people’s heads indicating that this file has another editor (basically, that you have shared the file).
Next, you want to RIGHT CLICK that same file again and go to share once more. You should now see the email address of the other person you shared it with under PEOPLE WITH ACCESS. Click the drop down menu next to their name and you should see a new options that says “Transfer Ownership”. Click that option and you will see a confirmation screen asking are you sure you want to transfer FULL OWNERSHIP of the file.
How To Transfer Ownership of A Google Drive Account
In order to transfer ownership of an ENTIRE Google Drive account you want to login to the account and then go to the upper left hand side of the screen to where you see MY DRIVE.
Click the arrow to the right of it to drop down the master folder for your Google Drive. This is EVERYTHING within your Google Drive account. Right click on that folder and click SHARE.
Type in the email address of the person you want to transfer ownership to, with the new drop down menu to the left go ahead and select EDITOR and click the blue send button.
Once the person has accepted the invitation through their email you can now right click the master folder one more time. Now you will see the person that you want to transfer ownership to under the title “People With Access”. You want to click the drop down menu next to their name and select Transfer Ownership.
There will be a confirmation screen pop up making SURE that you want to do this and you just click the BLUE send invitation button to confirm it.
