If you’re using a Logitech gaming or productivity mouse, chances are you’re not taking full advantage of everything it can do. In this step-by-step guide, I’ll walk you through how to change and customize your mouse buttons using Logitech G Hub.

Whether you’re mapping side buttons for gaming combos, adding hotkeys for editing software, or just streamlining your setup — this guide will help you do it quickly and easily.

🎯 What Is Logitech G Hub?

Logitech G Hub is Logitech’s official software for customizing its G-series devices — including mice, keyboards, headsets, and more.

With G Hub, you can:

  • Change button assignments

  • Adjust DPI and sensitivity

  • Set up custom profiles for different games/apps

  • Customize RGB lighting

  • Create macros and system shortcuts

🖱️ How To Change Mouse Button Assignments

1. Download and Install G Hub

If you haven’t already, download G Hub from the official website:

It works on both Windows and macOS.

2. Open G Hub and Select Your Mouse

Once installed, launch G Hub.
The software will automatically detect any compatible Logitech devices you have connected.

In this tutorial, I’m using the Logitech G502 X Wireless, but the steps are similar across most Logitech mice.

3. Go to the Assignments Tab

On the left-hand sidebar of the app, click the “Assignments” tab (the plus symbol ➕).

From here, you’ll see your mouse with clickable button zones. You’ll also see categories of assignable actions like:

  • Commands (e.g. Cut, Copy, Undo)

  • Keys (keyboard keys like W, A, S, D)

  • Actions (launch apps, switch DPI)

  • Macros (custom combinations)

  • System (volume, media controls)

4. Drag and Drop New Functions

To change a button:

  1. Click the category (e.g., “Keys”)

  2. Drag your desired function (like the W key)

  3. Drop it on the mouse button you’d like to change

  4. Wait for it to highlight blue, then release

Your button is now remapped!

✅ Example: I remapped my scroll wheel flick-left to the W key. Now every time I flick it left, it types “W” instead of scrolling a page.

5. Make Sure G Hub Is Running

⚠️ Important: G Hub must be running in the background for your custom assignments to work.

Before gaming or working, launch G Hub and minimize it. It doesn’t need to stay on screen — just active.

🔁 Bonus: Use Profiles for Different Apps

Click “Add Profile” at the top of the G Hub window to set up different button layouts for different games or programs. G Hub will automatically switch profiles when it detects the app is open.

Great for:

  • FPS games vs. RPGs

  • Streaming setups

  • Creative apps like Photoshop or Premiere
