Creating a professional homepage is one of the most important first steps when launching your WordPress website. Whether you’re building a personal blog, a business site, or an online portfolio, your homepage acts as your digital front door — it’s what most visitors will see first.

In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll walk you through exactly how to set a custom homepage in WordPress, no coding needed. We’ll also look at some design tips using Divi (our favorite builder) and get your homepage ready to impress.

🚀 Why Set a Static Homepage?

By default, WordPress shows your latest blog posts on the homepage — but that’s not always ideal. Most websites benefit from having a static homepage that stays the same unless you update it.

With a custom homepage, you can:

Showcase your business or personal brand

Add call-to-action buttons (book now, contact, subscribe)

Highlight featured services or testimonials

Guide visitors to key parts of your site

Let’s get yours set up.

🔧 Step 1: Set a Static Homepage in Settings

1. Log into your WordPress dashboard

2. Navigate to Settings > Reading

3. Under “Your homepage displays,” select A static page

4. Choose the page you want to use for your homepage

Don’t have one yet? No worries — we’ll make one next!

📄 Step 2: Create a New “Home” Page

1. Head to Pages > Add New

2. Title your page “Home” (or something similar)

3. You can leave it blank for now — just click Publish

Now return to Settings > Reading and assign this page as your homepage.

🎨 Step 3: Design Your Homepage with Divi

This is where the fun begins. If you’re using Divi, open your new homepage in the Divi Builder and start designing. You can:

Add a hero section with a large headline and button

Drop in blurbs, testimonials, contact forms, or videos

Use Divi’s drag-and-drop interface to customize the layout

If you’re not using Divi yet, I highly recommend it — it’s my go-to page builder for speed, flexibility, and design control.

💡 Pro Tip: Use Divi’s premade layouts to save time and get a polished look instantly.

🧭 Step 4: Add Your Homepage to the Navigation Menu

Make sure your homepage is easy to access from anywhere on your site.

1. Go to Appearance > Menus

2. Select your homepage and add it to your main menu

3. Drag it to the top position if you’d like it to be the default landing link
